Announcing Voigtländer HELIAR 40mm F2.8 Aspherical VM/L
The retro-style exterior is equipped with a sharp-edged optical design.
VM / L mount interchangeable lens for rangefinder cameras.
The HELIAR 40mm F2.8 Aspherical VM / L is a compact wide-angle lens with a lens configuration of 5
elements in 3 groups based on the Voigtländer traditional Heliar design.
By adopting the latest optical design and an aspherical lens, it keeps the filter diameter as small as φ34 mm,
and the total length of the product from the mount surface is 21.2 mm (VM bayonet mount) and 20.2
mm(L*1 screw mount), ensuring optical performance that can be used from maximum aperture.
The retro-style exterior is extremely compact.
This is a lens that combines the portability of a rangefinder camera as a snap shooter with the nostalgia of a
beautiful exterior design. The minimum object distance is 0.7m, which is a feature not usually found in
vintage lenses that use this style of rotating helicoid.
The exterior design prevents the helicoid from being exposed on the lens outer barrel even when shooting at
the shortest distance, making it resistant to the external environment such as dust.
In addition, the focus lever is equipped with an infinity lock mechanism like a vintage lens, which can be
useful when operating the aperture ring or attaching or detaching the lens.
There are two lens mounts, VM and L.
The HELIAR 40mm F2.8 Aspherical VM is a bayonet mount, which will trigger the 50mm bright frame in a
rangefinder camera equipped with an automatic bright line function.
The HELIAR 40mm F2.8 Aspherical L uses a φ39mm screw mount, so you can enjoy shooting by attaching it
to a rangefinder camera of the same kind.
In addition, by using a commercially available L / M adapter ring (* 2), it is possible to display the 35mm
bright lines on a rangefinder camera equipped with an automatic bright line function.
The exterior material is brass in both mounts, and two types of finishes are available: black and silver.
On the black model, even the mount is finished in black (* 3), and the focus lock button, focus and infinity
levers while the short-distance stop are nickel-plated to add an accent to the retro esthetics. All types come
with a special screw-in lens hood that is black-chromed brass.
The optical design of this lens is optimized for use with rangefinder-linked digital and film cameras. It is
also expected to be used with mirrorless digital cameras using a mount adapter.
